On the road again...

I am a procrastinator. If you are reading my blog, I think it is only fair that I tell you this up front. No matter what intentions I start with, I tend to put things off until the last possible minute. This being a blog, and therefore my own creation, means there is no last possible minute. I can blog whenever I want about whatever I want. The more I think about that, the more selfish I think I am.

So, today is the official beginning of this blog. Yes, I created the blog last week, and yes, I am leaving out of town early tomorrow morning so I won't be able to blog again until next week. But the way I see it, I have to start somewhere.

And because tomorrow I will be leaving my wonderful husband, Tony, for the second time since our move to Austin, today is the perfect choice. The first time was 2 weeks ago when I flew to Minnesota for my very best friend, Laura's bridal shower and bachelorette. Laura is getting married this Friday in Minnesota, and there was no question about me attending that wedding...there may have been a question about me hitching a ride back to Omaha and flying home from there-- if I hadn't already booked my flight when I told Tony about it (oops!).

He was a little disappointed (to say the least) about the first trip home being a solo one. I learned an important marriage lesson from that experience: always check with your spouse before booking plane tickets, no exceptions! I apologized and he forgave me, but I have to admit: even if he had been more upset, it would still be worth it for 2 days back in Omaha.

And so there it is: my first blog post. I'm going to go reward myself with a glass of red wine while figuring out how to pack 5 days worth of clothing and accessories into a carry-on bag. Wish me luck.

Next post:  photos from Laura's wedding and the much anticipated photos of our new apartment!
